Nissan vehicle sales in China dropped by almost 14% in July versus a year earlier, as the company felt the impact of slowing demand in the world’s biggest car market.

Nissan has said it sold 84,200 vehicles in July, 13.9% below year-ago levels, in the face of a lower light commercial vehicle market and greater competition in passenger cars.

Passenger car sales in the month totalled 67,100 units, down 11% on the year.

Nissan’s cumulative sales between January and July reached 672,100 units, 2.8% up on the same period last year.

Nissan plans to sell at least 1.3m units this year (versus 1.22m last year) and has said it does not plan to review the target at this stage. Three new Nissan models are planned for the Chinese market this year, including the Murano.
