India’s Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), after long talking about China, is now reportedly concluding plans to enter the PRC within a year, Access Asia said.
According to the report, M&M officials have been in China evaluating possible entry options – the most likely being either semi-knocked down (SKD) or completely knocked down (CKD) kit assembly for the Scorpio SUV model. Like many other manufacturers M&M has high hopes for China’s SUV market, though it may find itself just adding to the likely imminent over capacity in the Chinese vehicle sector.
Access Asia said M&M wants to target the middle level of the SUV market though whether through a joint venture with a domestic player or a technology transfer is not known as yet.
