Tata Motor’s Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) unit is strengthening its position in China with the establishment of a wholly-owned national sales company that will also be responsible for importing vehicles into the country.
So far, Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles have been made available in this market mainly by independent authorised importers and dealers. Jaguar Land Rover China will now adopt a more central, hands-on role in these operations. This will help it get closer to its customers and also help it project a stronger brand image.
Jaguar Land Rover China also inaugurated a new CNY10m centre in Shanghai dedicated to training up to 3,000 technical and managerial staff per year employed across its dealer network. Two new centres will be set up in the next year, one in Beijing and one in the south of the country.
The company is studying the potential for local production in China.
