Nissan China Investment Co is to recall 5,245 Infiniti JX35 models on the Chinese mainland, China’s quality regulator has said.

The Xinhua news agency reported that the recall concerns “flawed engine covers” that “may open spontaneously and cause accidents” according to a notice issued by the quality watchdog.

The recall will involve vehicles manufactured between April 19 in 2012 and Oct 31 in 2013, according to a notice released by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

Nissan recently outlined plans to increase local production by Infiniti’s JV in China. The company has an annual sales target of 100,000 vehicles for 2018 and it plans to manufacture over 50% of these vehicles locally.

Infiniti is also embarking on an expansion of its Chinese sales network, planning to open 25 to 30 new dealers in China annually, with a focus on so-called tier 2 and tier 3 cities.

The US-made seven-seater crossover JX35 has now become the QX60.
