More details of the production version of Hyundai’s Beijing show concept, the Peugeot 2008/Kia Soul/Nissan Juke rival ix25, which last week made its debut at the motor show in Chengdu, have surfaced along with the news sales in India will start in the first half of 2015.
Ibtimes last week reported the ix25 would be launched in India in the first half of 2015 priced between INR800,000 (US$13,232) and INR1.2m.
There may be differences between Chinese and Indian models. Chinese reports mention 1.6- and two-litre petrol engines and six-speed manual or automatic gearboxes; the report from India said the model is expected to be offered there with 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre petrol engines – with either four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmissions.
Meanwhile, another Indian report, from Economic Times Auto, said the production version had been spotted testing in India in the company of cars it is likely to challenge.
The model shown in Chengdu has an all-black dashboard but the one that will come to India is likely to have a dual-tone treatment.
ET Auto reckons the Indian ix25 likely will get the same engine as the local Verna – a 1.6-litre petrol unit developing 123PS of power and 155Nm of torque. It will also get a 1.6-litre diesel good for 128PS and 260Nm. The petrol variant will come with a five-speed manual gearbox while the diesel will get a six-speed one. Both variants might also come with an automatic gearbox option, too.
