Hyundai Motor is awaiting final government approval to build its fourth vehicle assembly plant in mainland China.
The company plans to build a 300,000 unit facility in the city of Chongqing, in the south west of the country.
A company official said it expects the government to give the go-ahead after the two annual meetings of the Lianghui legislature which are scheduled for this week.
A fourth plant would bring Hyundai Motor’s total capacity in mainland China to 1.3m units per year which the company hopes will help it expand market share.
