Sales at Guangzhou Automobile Group’s Japanese joint ventures have returned to normal after supply chain disruptions caused by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan last March, a company executive said.
GAC has JVs with Toyota, Honda and Nissan Motor, and saw passenger vehicle sales fall 12% in the first six months of 2011, partly due to supply chain problems, Reuters noted.
“Sales of Japanese cars have returned to normal from August,” Xu Yulin, vice general manager of Guangzhou-based GAC Motor, a unit of Guangzhou Auto, told the news agency. “The parts supply disruption impacted Toyota and Honda more while Nissan was less affected because of its higher degree of globalisation.”
GAC recently reported a 26% decline in first half net profit to CNY1.72bn (US$269m) as production and operations of its joint ventures were affected by supply chain problems.
