Chrysler is to consider long-term business ties with China’s Great Wall Motors in areas such as distribution, components and technology.
The US automaker has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese firm as part of its drive for greater involvement in China’s auto industry, the local unit said in statement cited by Reuters.
Chrysler executives told Reuters in April that it was discussing joint ventures with a number of potential Chinese partners, including Chery Automobile.
Chrysler sells over 10 models in China but only four, including the 300C, are manufactured locally, via partnerships, the report noted.
Chery last year agreed a deal with Chrysler to make compact cars under the Chrysler badge for sale in the Americas and elsewhere, Reuters added.
