Changan Ford Mazda on Thursday forecast 2007 sales between 220,000 and 230,000.

The venture more than doubled its 2006 China sales to 129,790 units, Reuters reported.

The forecast was given to the news agency by the venture’s president and chief executive Jeffrey Shen at a briefing ahead of the Shanghai motor show.

Also on Thursday, the JV announced it would build the new Mazda 2 at a new 160,000-unit factory in Nanjing from the end of this year.

An adjacent engine factory will make 350,000 units annually.

Reuters noted the existing Chongqing plant has annual capacity of 200,000 units.
