Transport Canada has issued a recall of 27,967 units of model year 2011, 2012 and 2013 Mexican-built Ford Fiesta cars.

On the affected cars, the restraint control module will turn off the right side (passenger side) air curtain, as well as the front passenger seat-mounted side airbag, when the occupant classification system (OCS) senses the right front seat is not occupied.

Although the vehicle meets prescribed standards for side impact protection, failure of the right side air curtain to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the right rear seat occupant.

Dealers will reprogramme the restraint control module.
