BYD has announced it has officially launched the U8 Premium Edition in China under its sub-brand Yangwang.

Deliveries are expected to start in October this year, and will be priced at 1,098,000 RMB (around £120,000) .

The U8 is an SUV with 1,200 horsepower and a plug-in hybrid system. It also supports fast DC charging at rates of up to 110 kW, parent company BYD says.

The premium brand was launched in January, and another sub-brand brand called Fang Cheng Ba was launched in June. It comes as the Chinese automaker looks to meet diversified consumer demands.

The U8 Premium Edition is being showcased in stores across major cities in China, including Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou.

There are plans to open more than 90 Yangwang stores in over 40 cities by the end of 2023.
