BYD has announced the European launch of its C-segment BEV hatchback, the Dolphin.

This is the first variant from the Chinese manufacturer’s Ocean series and comes with four trims: Active, Boost, Comfort and Design.

The model has a 60.4kWh (and, from Q1 2024, 44.9kWh) lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cobalt-free blade battery.

The eight-in-one powertrain combines the vehicle control unit, battery management system, power distribution unit, drive motor, motor controller, transmission, DC-DC, and charger.

With 60kWh battery, the Dolphin accelerates from 0 to 62mph (100km/h) in seven seconds and range is a claimed 265 miles.

The 44.9kWh variant has an estimated range of 211 miles in Active trim and 193 with Boost.

The motor develops 310Nm of torque and 150 kW for a top speed of 100 mph.

Driving modes are Sport, Normal, Economy, and Snow.

Charger is rated at 11 kW AC three phase.

An 88kW DC charger in the Comfort model, can charge the battery from 30 to 80% in a claimed 29 minutes.

It is also fitted with Vehicle to Load (VtoL) 3.3 kW discharge back technology allowing the car battery to charge external devices.

Each model in the range has Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Brake, Lane Departure Prevention and Emergency Lane Keeping Assist.

Additional driver assistance features are Blind Spot Detection System, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Decent Control, Automatic Vehicle Hold, and Traffic Sign Recognition with Intelligent Speed Limit Control.
