AE Brazil reports that Brazil’s production of automobiles and light utility vehicles in August stood at 203,978 units, up 5.4% from July and 8.7% higher than in August 2004, according to data released by local auto industry association ANFAVEA.

August sales rose 16.6% on last year to 135,981 units. Year-to-August sales totalled 1.026 million units, representing a 15% increase from the same period last year.

Exports totalled 60,250 units in August, down 7.3% on last year.

ANFAVEA revised up its production forecast for 2005 to 2.45 million vehicles from 2.3 million units previously.

The projection means an 11% increase from the 2004 result.

Domestic sales, meanwhile, should increase 5% this year, to 1.66 million units, ANFAVEA forecasts.
