Local media reports in Romania say that Bosch is in talks with local authorities to get permission for testing autonomous cars on the streets of the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca, near an engineering base it has set up.

The reports also say that Bosch is considering building a 'test run' near Cluj, where it could test autonomous cars on a dedicated circuit.

Bosch has been testing autonomous drive software on vehicles in the Cluj area, but vehicles have so far been under control of the driver. The tests have been for AV-related  algorithms and sensors.

Bosch opened an engineering centre in Cluj-Napoca in 2013 and currently has some 400 employees working there.

The supplier has a research and development centre in Cluj-Napoca and automotive factories in Jucu and Blaj plus non-auto units in Timisoara and Bucharest.

Bosch in Romania manufactures electronic components and control devices for the auto industry.
