Bosch has started volume production of a hydrogen fuel cell power module for which Nikola will be the pilot customer, using it in its upcoming Class 8 electric trucks.

The hydrogen truck was expected to launch in 2024.

Bosch expected hydrogen fuel cell technology would play a “key role” in trucking and anticipates sales of EUR5bn (US$3.5m) by 2030.

Fuel cell power module production is in Germany and Chongqing, China, with components coming from the supplier’s Wuxi plant.

Bosch is investing EUR2.5bn in hydrogen technology over five years.
