Toyota Motor Europe (TME)  announced second quarter sales of 220,900 Toyota and Lexus vehicles, bringing the half year tally to 451,000 units and the group’s market share to 4.6% for the six-month period.

TME said results were driven mainly by increased sales in western (+6%) and central Europe (+15%). Sales in eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Caucasus) fell 35% in spite of a market drop estimated at -38%, allowing Toyota and Lexus combined market share to increase by 0.3%. Yaris Hybrid and Auris Hybrid sales grew by 21% and 8% respectively. Sales of both brands’ hybrid models reached 101,000 units during the same period, taking more than 20% of total sales.
