Nissan will start production of the NV200 van and people carrier at its Barcelona factory in November as it starts to replace the Pathfinder SUV and Navara pick-up with smaller, more environmentally friendly models.

A decision on another new model for the plant will be made next year with production of that vehicle, expected to be a small passenger car, due to start from 2012.

Early models of the NV200, which goes on sale in Europe from October, will be built in Japan. Annual production of the vehicle in Spain will be around 45,000 units.

The NV200 was unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March when Nissan said it was not planning to sell it in the UK.
