Ford will start selling its latest US-designed F250 and F350 trucks in Australia in a few months.

The vehicles have been engineered for the right hand drive market and are factory built in Brazil, not converted from left-hand drive like the low-volume American Mustang just launched Down Under.

An extensive local testing program was undertaken to ensure the F-series models would meet the unique conditions of the Australian market.

They will be offered in a variety of configurations including single, super and crew cabs with the choice of two and four-wheel drive, manual or automatic transmissions and XL and XLT specification levels.

Standard features across the range include power steering, front disc brakes, limited-slip differential, air-conditioning, power mirrors, tinted glass and a four-tonne hydraulic jack.

The Ford F350

XLT models will add alloy wheels, standard driver and passenger airbags, single driver and passenger seats, cruise control, power windows and remote keyless locking.

Engines range from a 5.4 litre petrol V8 to a 7.3 litre turbocharged and intercooled diesel V8 and maximum towing capacity is over four tonnes.

Ford expects many F-series models will find Australian homes in agriculture, mining and service industries with heavy-duty towing and carrying requirements.

The increased load capacity of the latest locally-produced Falcon ‘ute’ (utility or pick-up) means that Ford Australia has no plans at present to re-introduce the F150, earlier versions of which were sold Down Under.
