Audi has confirmed a four-door performance electric car to go into production in 2020 at the Böllinger Höfe site near Neckarsulm (to be built alongside the R8). The e-tron GT is four-door luxury Gran Turismo with purely electric drive and would come to market after an Audi e-tron electric SUV.

Audi says its engineers are collaborating closely with Porsche and Volkswagen on vehicle architectures that are tailored for electric driving, and which allow major synergies within the VW Group. Audi plans to offer more than 20 electrified models by 2025 and says they will account for one third of unit sales by then.

“We interpret sportiness very progressively with our fully electric e-tron GT, and this is how we will take our high-performance brand Audi Sport into the future,” said Audi CEO Rupert Stadler.

At the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, Audi unveiled a prototype for its first all-electric model at the Geneva Motor Show. The ‘e-tron’ was described sporty premium SUV with space for five people along with plenty of luggage. The production version of the Audi e-tron launches on the European market at the end of 2018.

In 2020 Audi plans to have three all-electric vehicles in its product range, with a four-door Gran Turismo – the production version of the Audi e-tron Sportback concept – and a model in the compact segment joining the SUV e-tron.
