HERE Technologies and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are collaborating to progress the development of software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
HERE has signed a ten-year, $1bn cloud infrastructure deal with AWS to support AI-driven mapping and location services for transportation, automotive, logistics, and mobility companies worldwide.
The company has been leveraging AWS as its core cloud infrastructure for nearly a decade.
The partnership aims to boost automakers’ capacity to create electric, automated, and software-driven vehicles by merging AWS technologies with HERE’s mapping solutions.
This collaboration is anticipated to speed up the development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Automated Driving (AD), and innovative digital experiences for cars.
HERE CEO Mike Nefkens said; “Location technology is at the heart of the automotive industry’s software-defined vehicle revolution, and HERE’s collaboration with AWS is boosting our ability to deliver game-changing tools that dramatically accelerate this complex transformation for our customers. By fusing HERE’s industry-leading location intelligence with AWS’s cloud capabilities and global reach, we’re empowering automakers to rapidly evolve their vehicles into cutting-edge software platforms.

By GlobalData“Our work with AWS enables our customers to leverage our state-of-the-art location technology for faster software development and real-time data analytics throughout the entire SDV lifecycle, propelling the industry into a new era of automotive excellence.”
Commenting on the latest collaboration, AWS CEO Matt Garman remarked: “The future of the auto industry is linked to technological advancement and invention, and our collaboration with HERE is a powerful example of how AWS is accelerating innovation across manufacturing, connected vehicles, and driver experiences.
“Working with Here, we will help automakers pioneer new ways to improve the driving experience by leveraging the global scale, reliability, and AI capabilities of AWS to power AI-driven mapping applications and features.”
HERE’s live mapping services leverage AWS’s global infrastructure, addressing complex vehicle routing challenges while optimising EV driving efficiency. Additionally, this integration empowers developers to create key location-based services via Amazon Location Service.
Meanwhile, HERE has launched SceneXtract, a solution that eliminates the need for manual searching, locating, and converting real-world environments into simulation-ready scenes, streamlining the process of testing and validating ADAS and AD systems prior to their real-world deployment.
Leveraging the precise, continuously updated data from HERE HD Live Map and AWS natural language processing (NLP) and generative AI services, including Amazon Bedrock, automotive developers can now locate and export HERE HD Live Map data into test scenes.
This solution cuts down the time, effort, and costs needed to prepare new simulations for ADAS and AD testing, enabling the automotive industry to develop and deploy these driving technologies more quickly and efficiently.
These simulations can enhance ADAS and AD systems, easing the cognitive load on drivers and improving vehicle responsiveness to road conditions.
In addition to automotive applications, AWS and HERE have formed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement to develop transportation and logistics solutions that combine HERE’s mapping content with AWS’s computing power.
These solutions are designed to optimise fulfilment processes and supply chains, while also supporting sustainability objectives.
