AAM has named Olaf Bongwald as its Driveline Europe operations president, succeeding Michael Bly, who has been appointed the supplier’s global sales lead for the Driveline Business Unit.

In addition to his leadership of the European driveline business, Bongwald will also be responsible for growing and globalising AAM’s electric drive and hybrid drive business.

“We are extremely pleased to announce the addition of Olaf to AAM’s executive team,” said AAM chairman and CEO, David Dauch. “Electric drive and hybrid drive systems are quickly becoming a critical part of our driveline technology portfolio.

“Strengthening AAM’s capability in this area of focus is an important priority for us and Olaf’s global technical and operational experience will be instrumental in advancing this global effort as well as our driveline business in Europe.”

Prior to joining AAM, Bongwald was vice president Magna Electronics Global for Magna Electronics, responsible for leading the division in Germany, Austria, Italy, US, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan and China.

Bongwald will be located at AAM’s European headquarters and Engineering Centre in Bad Homburg, Germany.

Bly joined AAM in 2014 as AAM Europe president. Prior to that he was VP of GM’s European Powertrain Engineering located in Russelsheim, Germany.

Bly has previously held various positions and management roles with GM in powertrain, electrical and electrification engineering, while leading a multitude of powertrain and vehicle programmes in the US, Germany and the UK.
