A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11919366B2) discloses a vehicle heater system designed to provide personalized thermal comfort to occupants. The system includes a cabin air-conditioning unit that produces air-conditioned wind and conditions the air in the cabin. An auxiliary heater, such as a direct warmer or radiant warmer, is positioned to warm the occupant directly or through radiant heat. A cabin condition detector senses temperature, humidity, airflow, and solar radiation conditions inside the cabin. A controller then detects operation states of the air-conditioning unit and auxiliary heater, sets target thermal sensations for different parts of the occupant, and controls the delivery of air-conditioned wind and temperature based on the thermal sensations of each part.

Furthermore, the system includes a heating energy consumption detector to monitor energy usage and optimize heating efficiency. If the estimated thermal sensations fall within the set range, the controller adjusts the air-conditioning unit and auxiliary heater to minimize energy consumption. In cases where thermal sensations exceed the set range, the controller dynamically adjusts the operation of the air-conditioning unit and auxiliary heater to maintain comfort levels. The system also includes features for controlling air distribution between upper and lower body parts of the occupant and estimating thermal sensations based on skin temperatures, providing a comprehensive solution for personalized heating in vehicles.
