The patent application (Publication Number: US20240039080A1) describes a heat exchanger designed for the thermal management of battery units, specifically for battery cell containers housing one or more battery cells. The heat exchanger includes a main body portion with primary heat transfer surfaces in contact with the battery cell containers. It features first and second fluid flow passages within the main body portion, interconnected by an inlet header region and turn portions. The first and second fluid flow passages have opposite flow directions, with the second ends of the second fluid flow passages closer to the center of the main body portion compared to the inlet header region. Additionally, the heat exchanger includes inlet and outlet manifolds perpendicular to the flow directions, a base plate, and a cover plate with fluid routing slots and fluid flow openings.

Furthermore, the heat exchanger consists of a rectangular main body portion with flow channels extending from an inlet header region to the opposite end, connected by turn portions and ending in closed outlet ends. The turn portions are U-shaped, facilitating the flow of fluid between the first and second plurality of flow channels. The second plurality of flow channels is longitudinally staggered with respect to the first plurality, ensuring efficient thermal management of the battery unit. The heat exchanger also includes a manifold section with fluid openings in communication with the flow channels, enhancing the overall functionality of the thermal management system for battery units.
