Notably, Architecture and Engineering Occupations jobs accounted for a 15% share of the global auto industry’s environmental sustainability-related total new job postings in Q1 2023, down 35% over the prior quarter.

Architecture and Engineering Occupations drive environmental sustainability-related hiring activity

Architecture and Engineering Occupations, with a share of 15%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the auto industry in Q1 2023, with new job postings drop by 35% quarter-on-quarter. Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations came in second with a share of 10% in Q1 2023, with new job postings rising by 3% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include Management Occupations with a 9% share in Q1 2023, Production Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in auto industry accounted for 31% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q1 2023 were Tesla, Robert Bosch, Gestamp Automocion, Honda Motor, and Caliber Collision Centers. Together they accounted for a combined share of 31% of all environmental sustainability-related new jobs in the auto industry.

Tesla posted 2,056 environmental sustainability-related new jobs in Q1 2023, Robert Bosch 441 jobs, Gestamp Automocion 440 jobs, Honda Motor 377 jobs, and Caliber Collision Centers 368 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 66.39% share of total new job postings, Q1 2023

The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the auto industry in Q1 2023 was in the US with 66.39% followed by India (6.39%) and the UK (5.31%). The share represented by the US was four percentage points lower than the 69.95% share it accounted for in Q4 2022.
