Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Microsoft filed the most cloud patents within the automotive industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 7 cloud-related patents in the quarter, compared with 5 in the previous quarter. It was followed by LG with 6 cloud patent filings, NVIDIA (6 filings), and General Motors (5 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 63% share of total patent filings
The largest share of cloud related patent filings in the automotive industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 63%, followed by China (12%) and Australia (1%). The share represented by the US was 28% higher than the 35% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
