Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that International Business Machines filed the most cloud patents within the automotive industry in Q3 2022. The company filed 13 cloud-related patents in the quarter, compared with 10 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Microsoft with 5 cloud patent filings, Oracle (4 filings), and Dell Technologies (4 filings) in Q3 2022.

Patenting activity was driven by the US with an 84% share of total patent filings

The largest share of cloud related patent filings in the automotive industry in Q3 2022 was in the US with 84%, followed by China (3%) and Germany (2%). The share represented by the US was 69% higher than the 15% share it accounted for in Q2 2022.
