The top five companies accounted for 28% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Toyota Motor filed the most blockchain patents within the automotive industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 20 blockchain-related patents in the quarter, compared with 13 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Ford Motor with 8 blockchain patent filings, State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance (7 filings), and Scalar (6 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 48% share of total patent filings
The largest share of blockchain related patent filings in the automotive industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 48%, followed by China (11%) and Germany (4%). The share represented by the US was 4% higher than the 44% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
