What is Environmental?

The Environmental category aims to highlight companies that are undertaking projects that reduce their impact on the natural environment or contribute to its general health. With the effects of climate change becoming ever more obvious, corporations have a responsibility to update and change their practices to prevent further damage being caused.

This category includes any projects that have led or will lead to a significant reduction in a company’s environmental impact and carbon footprint. This can include changes to materials and manufacturing, supply chain reviews; reduction in energy use or switches to renewables; recycling initiatives; and carbon offsetting. The category also includes projects that contribute to the environment such as tree planting schemes and river cleaning.

The automotive industry is typically considered to be one of the biggest contributors to global carbon emissions but as we have seen during the research period the industry has been working hard to combat emissions and pollution.

The companies below have been ensuring components are being produced in a circular manner with sustainable materials; recycling batteries with which to power innovative battery-electric vehicles; and creating exciting initiatives and certification programs.

Companies have also been working to provide the industry with green solutions such as installing renewable energy sources like solar panels in factories, ensuring vehicle transportation is conducted with vehicles running on alternative fuels, joining initiatives that advocate for carbon-reduction and launching initiatives that are aimed at reducing the environmental impact of component production.

Recycling is key to creating a more sustainable economy. The companies in this category have been expanding recycling capacity, signing deals to expand their operations in new regions and building new facilities.

Sustainable component production is an important aspect of the industry’s environmental push. The companies in this category have been creating new component production facilities that utilise sustainable practices as well as making sure all component materials such as steel are sustainably produced or have a low or negative carbon footprint.

The green push in the automotive industry has many aspects such as carbon-neutrality goals, sustainability financing and product certification. The companies in this category have been hard at work setting industry carbon reduction goals, introducing sustainability practices, certifying batteries’ and other components’ sustainable profile and launching new initiatives to reduce emissions.
