The Michigan-based Center for Automotive Research (CAR) has announced that its annual series of seminars (CAR Management Briefing Seminars – MBS) will be back at the Grand Traverse Resort for one of the year’s first in-person automotive events, August 4-5.

However, the welcome news comes amid concern over rising Covid cases in the state of Michigan which have prompted the state to extend emergency rules until October. Ford is among companies that have said they will continue to ask Michigan-based white collar employees to carry on working at home until then, dashing hopes of a general return to its offices in the summer.

“Local guidelines continue to inform our return-to-workplace protocols and given the announcement by the state of Michigan, we will delay the gradual return to campus we had planned with our hybrid work model from July to October for non-place-dependent workers,” Ford said in a statement.

The annual event at the Grand Traverse Resort also serves as an informal meeting point and social event for senior executives in North America’s automotive industry and is a regular on many calendars.

CAR stressed that it takes COVID–19 safety seriously and will be taking every precaution ‘to ensure that we can meet safely’. The Grand Traverse Resort is following strict social distancing and sanitation measures to ensure that MBS 2021 is safe and successful, it said.

Topics at CAR MBS this year include:

  • Sustainability
  • Trade
  • EV Technology, Policy, and Consumer Acceptance
  • Workforce Diversity
  • Automaker/Supplier Relationships
  • Industry 4.0
  • Automotive Outlook
  • Future of Mobility
