Toyota#;s Valenciennes car plant in France this week assembled its 100,000th Yaris (Vitz/Echo) hatchback.

The French factory began production of the compact Toyota – sold only in hatchback form in Europe – in January 2001 and now employs 2,200 people producing about 130,000 vehicles a year.

The plant builds a proportion of the Yaris models sold in the UK and Europe while the remainder are still sourced from Japan.
