BMW Group sold more vehicles in March than in any other month in its history with volume up 12% year on year to 185,728 cars. The company also achieved a record first quarter – up 11.2% to 425,528.

Sales and marketing chief Ian Robertson said: “These outstanding results are due to our attractive, young model range and our strategy of healthy, balanced growth across the globe. We aim to continue the momentum with additional new models this year.”

BMW brand sales rose 13.4% to 153,004 vehicles while Q1 volume was up 11% to 356,548.

Mini volume was up 5.6% to 32,421 in March and up 12.1% to 68,210 in the first quarter.

Rolls-Royce Q1 volume climbed 6.5% to 770.

Group sales in Germany in the first quarter were up 2% to 66,222 and there were record first quarters in the US and China. In the US, sales climbed 13% in March to 29,806  and, year to date, 16.6% to 75,729. Chinese volume rose 41.1% in March to 30,593 and 36.8% to 80,014 in Q1.
