Much of the looks and technology displayed on Mazda’s Takari concept car at the Tokyo motor show will go into the new 6 [Atenza in Japan] due around 2013, company insiders have confirmed.
That includes technology that will give the car hybrid levels of fuel economy and CO2 emissions and, hopefully, it will not lose too much of the highly attractive looks of the concept.

The Takari D-segment concept shows off Mazda’s new design language, Kodo (which means ‘soul of motion’), to bring a new level of strength and allure to medium-size sedan styling.
Under the skin is benchmark Skyactiv technology, including Mazda’s first regenerative braking system. This converts kinetic energy to electricity during deceleration, stores it in capacitors and uses it to power the vehicle’s electrical equipment – reducing load on the engine and saving fuel.
Mazda said the combination of a Skyactiv diesel engine, ‘i-stop’ start-stop system, new lightweight structure, aerodynamic and chassis technologies as well as regenerative braking help achieve excellent fuel economy together with vigorous performance and a comfortable high quality ride.
