GAZ plans to start producing a less expensive model of its GAZelle light commercial vehicle in September-October, GAZ Group’s Deputy CEO Vadim Sorokin has told reporters.
GAZ Group is currently analyzing the market and is developing a promotion policy for the new model, according to Prime-Tass
“We think that we will start production (of the new model) at the end of the third quarter or the beginning of the fourth quarter and will produce about 10,000 of these vehicles before the end of the year,” Sorokin said.
The inexpensive, “anti-crisis” GAZelles will be fitted with engines produced at the Ulyanovsk Motor Plant (UMZ), a part of GAZ Group, instead of engines produced at the Zavolzhsky Engine Plant (ZMZ), Sorokin said, adding that this move would reduce production costs.
The price of the new GAZelle model could be as low as US$6,000, the report said.
