South Korean supplier Hyundai Mobis said it planned to start testing Level 4 (L4) autonomous driving vehicles this month in the Songdo and Yeongjongdo districts of Incheon.

The company would trial vehicles fitted with its L4 self driving technology on long distance urban routes over the next year, after it reached a business agreement with the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, the Incheon Technopark and 20 local software companies and research institutes to commercialise the technology.

The L4 trials would run on non highway urban routes covering 60km (40 miles) around the Incheon Bridge.

Hyundai Mobis was also set to unveil its latest mobility technology at the 37th World Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition (EVS37) scheduled to be held in the COEX exhibition centre in Seoul from 23 April. The annual event rotates between North America, Europe and Asia.

Among the standout technology the company planned to unveil was its sideways ‘crab walking’ drive system which facilitates parking as well as its Mobion concept car equipped with next generation electric vehicle drivetrain technology including in wheel drive systems.
