LG Electronics announced it had gained recognition as an international certification institute for testing the functional safety of automotive software, as part of its continued expansion into the global automotive sector
The South Korean company said its software testing centre had been accredited by the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme as an institute qualified to verify ISO 26262-6 standards which focus on the functional safety of electrical or electronic systems installed in vehicles.
The certification is accepted by 70 countries, including the United States and Japan, under the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation’s mutual recognition arrangement.
The accreditation will allow LG Electronics to more efficiently test and certify the quality and safety of its automotive technology and will help strengthen its automotive division, which current focuses on infotainment and electronics for powertrains and lighting systems. Future areas of growth include autonomous driving and connected technology.
