Following delivery of the first unit to DB Schenker, another of the first battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros from initial series production went to another logistics service provider – Dachser.

Karin Radstrom, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, handed over a 300 version to Stefan Hohm, chief development officer (CDO) of Dachser at the assembly plant in Woerth am Rhein.

Dachser will add more eActros to its vehicle fleet as part of its climate protection strategy.

“The series-production eActros is an important component of our city delivery concept emission-free delivery, which we are currently expanding to 11 European metropolitan regions,” said Hohm.

The new vehicle replaces a prototype which has been in practical trials with Dachser in Stuttgart since 2019.

“The eActros has proven its everyday value in Stuttgart, especially when it comes to the emission-free delivery of palletised goods to customers. We also see some potential in shuttle traffic for the all electric truck. We assume that the vehicle will find a wide range of applications in sustainable cargo logistics,” Hohm added.

In Stuttgart, Dachser uses the new BEV truck to deliver general cargo, including palletised shipments which are too large and heavy for parcel shipping, to downtown customers. The electric truck, in conjunction with a Fuso eCanter (7.5 tons), supplies an inner-city microhub with shipments, which are then distributed over the last mile with electrically supported cargo bikes. All general cargo shipments in a defined area are delivered locally CO2 and nitrogen oxide emissions free. The eActros is charged with green electricity at the Dachser branch in Kornwestheim.

For this application, the e-truck was configured with a 4×2 wheel layout and a Spier box body. The 19-ton truck was produced last year after the start of series production. Dachser was one of the select customers which gained valuable experience with an early prototype.
