ZF Transmissions Shanghai (ZFTS), a joint venture between ZF and Shanghai Automobile Gear Works, has announced the launch of its first reduction drive for the new energy vehicle (NEV) market in China.

This product, which is set to be supplied to an automotive manufacturer in the country, represents an advancement in ZF's localised E-mobility solutions.

ZFTS's business scope has now expanded to include E-mobility, with the NEV reducer being a key addition to its product lineup.

The new stand-alone reducer embodies ZF's global e-drive technologies and local manufacturing capabilities.

Characterised by low noise levels, high efficiency, and a compact axial parallel design, it meets the rigorous demands of China's mainstream NEV platforms.

With the launch of the initial unit, ZFTS is set to ramp up mass production and enhance its delivery capabilities.

The first Vehicle Start of Production (SOP) is expected to be integrated into a midsize SUV in the second half of this year.

For over four decades, ZF has been involved in the country’s automotive industry, promoting the development of the local supply chain and manufacturing system via localised research and development (R&D), mass-production of advanced technologies, and strategic partnerships.

Looking ahead, ZF plans to further strengthen its innovation and service offerings in the country’s market.

ZF Group Asia Pacific Electrified Powertrain Technology Division senior vice president Timo Maisel said: “From customer nomination and project approval to the successful rollout of the product, the entire process was led and executed by our Asia Pacific team.

“This achievement fully demonstrates the region’s outstanding capabilities in localised R&D, project management, procurement, and manufacturing. It not only reflects ZF Asia Pacific’s technical strength in NEV key components, but also proves our capability to respond quickly and execute efficiently in the local market.”
