Xpeng launches EREV version of G7 SUV

Company claims the new model has the world’s longest driving range.

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Xpeng Motors has launched a new hybrid version of its G7 SUV, which it claims has the longest range in its segment globally. The pure battery-powered version of the G7 was launched in July last year.

The automaker claims the newly-released hybrid extended range electric vehicle (EREV) version of the G7 has a range of 1,740 km with a full 60-litre fuel tank and a fully-charged 55.8 kWh battery pack, more than any SUV in its class. The G7 EREV has a 1.5L petrol engine that functions as a generator to recharge the batteries, which power the 218 kW rear-axle mounted motor, helping to ease “range anxiety” among local consumers when undertaking long trips.

In pure EV mode, the batteries can provide a driving range of up to 430 km. The G7 EREV is based on an 800-voltage platform and supports up to 5C charging, which can add 314 km of driving in just 12 minutes. Prices for both the G7 BEV and the G7 EREV start at CNY 195,800 (US$ 28,000). Xpeng’s global sales surged by 126% to 429,445 vehicles last year, including 45,008 units in overseas markets.
