Autonomous driving tech company WeRide and Chinese EV maker GAC Aion have introduced the Aion N60, their first jointly developed mass-produced passenger vehicle.
Described as a “smart urban” SUV, the Aion N60 comes with WeRide Driving (WRD 3.0), WeRide’s one-stage end-to-end advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), formerly called WePilot.
According to the press statement, the system is designed to support assisted driving across a range of situations, including city roads, motorways, parking and safety-related functions, covering daily commuting scenarios.
The launch also represents WeRide’s first mass-production application of its one-stage end-to-end technology on the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform.
WeRide said this makes it the “only” autonomous driving technology provider to have brought this technology into mass production on both NVIDIA Drive and Qualcomm Snapdragon in-vehicle computing platforms.
The WRD 3.0 system includes “multi‑object intention prediction and full‑scenario semantic perception”.
It allows the vehicle to assess road user behaviour in “real time” and adapt its speed and path in more “complex” settings such as mixed traffic, pedestrian crossings and multi-level interchanges.
The Aion N60 also uses WeRide GENESIS, the company’s simulation platform that combines physical AI and generative AI.
WeRide said the platform can produce virtual driving scenarios and includes functions covering scenario generation, algorithm training, assessment and diagnostics.
It is intended to support large-scale validation in conditions such as emergency manoeuvres, severe weather and rare edge-case situations.
The company said it plans to continue working with brands under GAC Group to roll out intelligent driving systems across more vehicle categories.
Earlier this month, WeRide and Grab, Southeast Asia’s superapp, began public operations for the Ai.R (Autonomously Intelligent Ride) service in Punggol.
The companies said the public can use what they described as Singapore’s first autonomous passenger service operating within a residential estate.
