Valeo has secured a contract to supply its next-generation corner radar suite for level 2+ and level 3 driver assistance systems to an unnamed North American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer.
The French automotive supplier said the agreement covers hardware and embedded software.
Valeo stated that the radar technology delivers 50 times the resolution of earlier generations and is designed to support safety features, along with driving and parking functions.
According to the company, the system was developed to enable automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist and safe exit protection.
It added that the technology can also support “eyes off” functions, which the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) could introduce later through over-the-air updates.
Valeo said the offering covers autonomy levels from entry-level systems to level 3, and that its radar portfolio includes front and corner units.
The company said its front radar has a detection range of up to 250m and uses interference-robust and waveguide antenna technology, which it said helps maintain performance in tunnels and adverse weather conditions.
Valeo described its computing architecture as “high-performance” and said it supports deep-learning-based sensor fusion.
The company said the corner radar sensors are intended to support blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alerts and parking functions.
Valeo also said its rear cross-traffic alert function warns drivers of approaching vehicles while reversing.
Valeo Brain division CEO Marc Vrecko said: “This new contract is in line with Valeo’s Elevate 2028 growth objectives in the region and supports Valeo’s mission to democratise state-of-the-art safety technology for greater road safety.”
Last month, Valeo and Nissan signed a contract for the commercialisation of Valeo’s bidirectional charging stations in Europe.
Valeo said that agreement supports Nissan’s V2G roadmap in Europe, starting in the UK, by providing bidirectional charging technology for eligible Nissan EVs.
