French automotive supplier Valeo has been awarded an interior lighting solutions programme by an unnamed global vehicle manufacturer.
The project will be industrialised using In-Mold Structural Electronics (IMSE) technology developed by Finnish tech firm TactoTek.
Under the agreement, Valeo will introduce a dedicated automated production line designed specifically to enable large-scale manufacturing of IMSE-based components.
The scope includes an interior system that combines lighting and electronics within a single structural part, intended to provide a flush interior finish alongside improved in-cabin functionality.
Valeo light division CEO Maurizio Martinelli said: “This award sets a new benchmark for next generation interior solutions. Valeo’s lighting expertise and industrial capabilities, combined with IMSE technology, are enabling us to bring highly advanced, smart interior systems into large-scale production.”
Since 2024, the group has secured close to €1bn ($1.17bn) in interior lighting orders, spanning pixelated lighting, light lines and smart surface applications.
IMSE technology allows electronic components to be embedded directly into finished parts, producing thinner and lighter structures while improving energy efficiency.
The approach also reduces material consumption and supports more sustainable manufacturing processes.
TactoTek will supply the core IMSE technology, enabling Valeo to scale the solution for high-volume production.
The new manufacturing line reflects Valeo’s focus on advanced production methods and is intended to support wider adoption of IMSE solutions within automotive interiors.
TactoTek CEO Jussi Harvela added: “Our cooperation with Valeo and the commissioning of a dedicated new production line mark an important milestone in the large-scale industrial adoption of IMSE technology, whose cost competitiveness and ability to support future design evolution were decisive factors in securing the award.”
Last September, Valeo signed an agreement with Chinese autonomous driving technology firm Momenta to establish a strategic partnership in “advanced mid- to high-level intelligent assisted driving and autonomous driving products, systems, and solutions, in China and overseas.”
