US-based Uber Technologies has agreed to acquire parking reservation platform SpotHero for an undisclosed sum.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Closing, which remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions, is expected in the first half of this year.
Founded in 2011, SpotHero runs a parking reservation marketplace covering more than 13,000 garages, lots and valet locations across over 400 cities in the US and Canada.
SpotHero CEO Mark Lawrence said: “We have spent 15 years building SpotHero into the most trusted, high-performing digital parking network in North America. Joining forces with Uber will allow us to bring that experience to millions more drivers and make parking a natural part of the Uber platform.”
After the transaction closes, Uber intends to embed SpotHero’s functionality within its app.
It will allow users to book parking for daily commuting as well as at venues, events and airports.
The company said Uber One members are expected to gain parking-related benefits over time.
Parking operators using SpotHero are also expected to gain exposure to Uber’s customer base and its network of vehicle charging and fleet partners.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi added: “We have built Uber around giving people more ways to get around without needing a car. But for the moments when people do choose to drive, SpotHero on the Uber app will make the experience easier than ever, and bring more people into the Uber ecosystem.”
In a separate announcement, Uber unveiled Uber Autonomous Solutions, a package of services designed to help partners develop and commercialise autonomous vehicle and delivery operations across multiple markets.
The offering combines access to Uber’s demand marketplace with product development and operational support aimed at lowering cost per mile and speeding deployment.
