Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation said it plans to sell three US-made models in its domestic market from 2026, saying this will help it meet the diverse needs of its broad range of Japanese customers while also helping to improve Japan-US trade relations.

The three models include the Camry sedan, the Highlander SUV, and the Tundra pickup truck, produced at its facilities in Kentucky, Indiana, and Texas respectively. The automaker said that as part of its preparations to introduce these models to Japan, it will make use of a new “system” to be introduced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism following the recent bilateral trade negotiations.

Toyota described its best-selling US-made Camry as combining a “sophisticated design with comfort, while boasting outstanding fuel efficiency,” while the Highlander is a three-row SUV popular with families. Toyota said it has decided to reintroduce these two models in Japan, after they were discontinued there in 2023 and 2007 respectively, with the Highlander previously sold as the Kluger. Toyota said it believes its Japanese customers will also embrace the Tundra pickup truck, with its “tremendous power that sets it apart from other models.”
