Toyota Motor Corporation announced that it is scheduled to officially launch its all-new RAV4 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV in Japan on the 9th of March, following the launch of the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) model in December 2025.

The Japanese automaker said that the new RAV4 PHEV, based on the sixth-generation RAV4, is fitted with the company’s new energy-efficient Series Parallel Plug-in Hybrid System (A25A-FXS) featuring a 2.5L engine and an electric continuously variable transmission, delivering a maximum power output of 242 kW (329 PS).

The new RAV4 PHEV has a larger-capacity drive battery, providing an increased BEV driving range of 150 km, compared with the 95 km range of its predecessor. The new battery is compatible with high-output chargers and can be used as a storage battery.

The new model will be available in two main variants, the Z PHEV model priced at JPY 6 million (US$ 38,700) including consumption tax, and the GR Sport PHEV priced at JPY 6.3 million (US$ 40,600). The company has set a domestic market sales target of 700 units per month, with production taking place at two plants, its Takaoka plant and the Nagakusa plant, which is managed by Toyota Industries Corporation.
