The more compact FJ design aims to attract more buyers to the Land Cruiser brand.

Toyota Motor Corporation has launched the all-new Land Cruiser ‘FJ’ Series in Japan, joining the three existing Land Cruiser models, the 300, 250 and 70 models, as the Japanese automaker looks to expand the appeal of the Land Cruiser SUV brand.

The new FJ range has a more compact, “easy-to-handle” size compared with its predecessor, while “retaining the essence of the Land Cruiser―reliability, durability, and off-road performance.” The new off-roader retains the FJ’s traditional square cabin design, which prioritizes habitability and cargo capacity.

Toyota confirmed that the new the FJ series is based on a “highly durable and reliable” ladder frame structure, offering “excellent off-road performance through superior wheel articulation (tyre contact with the ground),” while providing “outstanding mobility through a shortened wheelbase.”

The new FJ Series is powered by a 2.7-litre gasoline engine, coupled with the company’s 6 Super ECT transmission. It is priced at JPY 4.5 million (US$ 28,300), including consumption tax.
