India’s Tata Technologies has partnered with the UK-based safety systems provider WITTENSTEIN High Integrity Systems (WHIS) to integrate the SAFE RTOS operating system into its automotive software stack.
Under the agreement, WHIS’s SAFE RTOS will be integrated as a core element of Tata Technologies’ software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform.
This is intended to help automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers meet functional safety requirements while speeding development of connected, autonomous and electrified mobility solutions.
According to the press statement, the collaboration brings together Tata Technologies’ automotive software development capabilities and WHIS’s safety-critical embedded software expertise.
The aim is to enable “scalable, safety-certified SDV architectures”.
WHIS managing director Andrew Longhurst said: “Software is at the heart of the automotive industry’s evolution. Our partnership with Tata Technologies ensures that OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers can leverage SAFE RTOS to achieve the highest levels of safety and performance in their software-defined vehicle architectures.”
The automotive industry is undergoing transformation driven by electrification, autonomy, connectivity and increasing software content.
Tata Technologies and WHIS said the partnership addresses demand for software platforms capable of supporting complex SDV ecosystems.
Tata Technologies automotive sales president Nachiket Paranjpe added: “By combining Tata Technologies’ expertise in automotive software development with WHIS’s proven safety solutions, we are empowering our customers to accelerate SDV adoption and deliver cutting-edge mobility experiences.”
Earlier this month, Qualcomm Technologies and Tata Electronics agreed to manufacture Qualcomm Automotive Modules at Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor assembly and test facility in India.
Through the arrangement, Tata Electronics became part of Qualcomm Technologies’ global network of module manufacturing partners, supporting demand for modular automotive platforms.
Production of Qualcomm Automotive Module products in India is planned at Tata Electronics’ greenfield outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility in Assam.
