Supplier announces EV-specific glovebox deal

Used in the Kia EV9

Luke Martin August 02 2023

Another supplier 'reinventing the wheel' with claimed improvements - Hyundai Mobis has announced a new glove box specifically designed for electric vehicles (EVs). The Parabolic Motion Glove Box is larger and designed to minimise the risk of knee collision when opened.

Affiliate Kia is fitting the new part in its new EV9 SUV.

Hyundai Mobis said the parabolic motion “alludes to the parabolic trajectory, mirroring the path followed by overhead airplane luggage compartments”.

No ICE engine under the bonnet in some EVs expands passenger space which allows a larger glove box (and in some models, a front trunk or 'frunk').

Conventional ICE vehicles typically offer a glove box capacity of 5.5 litres but the new component holds eight litres.
