Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) US, the American arm of Stellantis, has initiated a recall of approximately 1.07 million vehicles in the US due to a fire risk tied to a power steering fault.

The action covers select Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator models from the 2021–2025 model years.

An internal probe identified a wiring connection fault in the electric hydraulic power steering pump that could cause nearby combustible materials to overheat and potentially ignite.

Owners will receive first-class mail notifications advising them when to book a service appointment.

The fix will involve inspection of the affected components, with the wiring harness and/or electric hydraulic power steering pump repaired or replaced as needed.

FCA US said it expects a remedy to be available no later than July.

In the interim, the company has urged owners to keep their vehicles parked away from buildings and other vehicles.

The recall extends to markets outside the US, with roughly 106,258 vehicles affected in Canada, 23,704 in Mexico, and a further 124,297 in markets outside North America.

The announcement comes as Stellantis pursues a broader recovery effort. Last month, Stellantis unveiled its latest strategic plan – FaSTLAne 2030.

As the company struggles to turnaround, it said that the €60bn ($69.42bn), five-year strategic plan is designed to accelerate growth and profit.

In the same month, Stellantis also signed a memorandum of understanding with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the Tata Motors-owned carmaker, to explore collaboration on product and technology development in the US.

In April this year, Ford recalled about 1.39 million F-150 pickup trucks in the US after a federal investigation examined complaints involving unexpected downshifts.

Ford also topped US manufacturers for recall volume in 2025, issuing 153 recalls covering approximately 12.9 million vehicles, the highest annual total recorded for a single carmaker in the country.
