Stellantis and Hype deploy wheelchair-accessible hydrogen taxis

First 50 operating in Paris

Luke Martin June 12 2023

Stellantis and hydrogen mobility services provider Hype have worked jointly to supply and operate wheelchair accessible hydrogen taxis.

Delivery of an initial fleet of 50 will start in Paris this year.

The vehicles are adaptations of the electric Peugeot e-Expert and Citroen e-Dispatch passenger van models commonly used as accessible taxis in the UK and Europe, along with their ICE equivalents.

Each vehicle accommodates up to five passengers, including one in a wheelchair, or six without.

The vehicles are 100% electric-hybrid, combining a rechargeable battery with a hydrogen fuel cell and have a range of 400km (250 miles).

Refuelling takes three minutes, the only 'exhaust pipe' emission is water, and Stellantis claimed 'no compromise on cargo capacity'.

The two companies plan to have up to 1,000 of the taxis in use by the end of 2024.
