Indian auto components maker Spark Minda has said it will invest Rs11.66bn ($121.7m) in two new manufacturing units in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

According to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI), the investment is expected to create around 6,440 jobs.

The new facilities will manufacture ignition switch-cum-steering locks, mechatronic components and related connection systems at scale.

They will extend the company's existing Gautam Buddh Nagar industrial cluster, where its security systems, die-casting and wiring harness plants in Noida and Greater Noida already anchor a significant part of its India manufacturing footprint.

Spark Minda group chairman Ashok Minda, as reported by the Economic Times citing PTI, said: “Noida has been home to Spark Minda since our early years, and this expansion is doubling down on that relationship.

“Every new plant we add in this cluster builds on capability we have spent decades developing here, in engineering, in supplier relationships and in people.”

According to the report, Spark Minda separately confirmed a new joint venture plant with Japan's Toyodenso to manufacture advanced automotive switches.

The plant will be established in Noida as planned and is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of FY27.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Minda Corporation, the flagship company of the Spark Minda Group, will invest close to Rs2.70bn to build a new manufacturing facility in Pune, Maharashtra, to produce TFT displays for automotive use.

The project secured approval under the Indian government's Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors.

According to the report, it is designed to cut the company's reliance on imported displays while strengthening its manufacturing presence within India.
